Progress

A couple of hours listening to Tony Benn at the Corn Exchange in Newbury last night and a few hours sat in the garden here at lunchtime today has seen my sock grow.

knittingclub190908_001.jpgWe are off to Newbury Show tomorrow. The weather forecast is for an even warmer day than today so we should have a good time. I may find time to do some knitting whilst watching some of the events in the main show ring.

Enjoy the week-end.

My plan

is working. I have finished the last pair of socks I have on the needles so I can cast on my sock knitting club socks tomorrow.

and a finished pair of socks

regiasilk160908 002.jpgThis yarn was really lovely to knit with, very soft. I have some more in blue shades to knit at a later date. Meanwhile I have one pair of socks to finish before the sock club socks - really these are the only socks I have left on needles waiting to be finished..

opal6plyladybird.jpg

The yarn is opal 6 ply from the rainforest collection - ladybird. I knitted a pair in 4 ply and they are probably David's favourite socks. So I shall finish these and then I will cast on for the sock club socks - I would still like to have those done before the end of the month.

I managed to get a capy of Rowan Studio 12 today which has some lovely designs using kidsilk haze and kidsilk aura but firat we must finish raspy! Raspy does have a back and a front and now has half a sleeve!

Happy Knitting.

These are the regia silk color - yarn I bought at Web of Wool back in August. I am off to Reading tomorrow so these will be in my bag - let's see what progress we make.

Rowan 30th Anniversary

| | Comments (0) | TrackBacks (0)

In August 2008 it was Rowan's 30th Anniversary, celebrating three decades of Rowan.
For their anniversary year they have plans for an exciting exhibition featuring garments from the past 30 years of Rowan. The exhibition launched at the North Light Gallery before setting off on its travels around the globe and will feature a selection of iconic designs from key designers who have helped create the inimitable style of Rowan.

The historical trail is a special exhibition of garments showcasing inspirational designs from the Rowan Magazine 1 to present day. In conjunction with the exhibition Rowan held a special anniversary weekend workshop at the North Light Gallery. I was unable to go to the workshop but a couple of friends went and sent me these photo's.

exhibition1.jpg exhibition2.jpgDuring the week-end they got the opportunity to have a go at all the techniques seen in iconic designs of the past, these could then be made up into either a bag or wall hanging to take home as a keepsake of the week-end. The bag design was from Sharon Brant and knitted in Rowan pure wool I believe.

bag_front.jpg bag_back.jpg A similar workshop is being held at Missenden Abbey just before Easter 2009. I may just get to see the exhibition here.

Stars and Stripes

Back on track....

  starsandstripes140908.jpg

Great progress is now being made with these socks and by my counting I have 17 rows to do on the foot and then the toe shaping. This means I must have done 33 rows this morning at Caffe Nero's so if I can squeeze in a visit there tomorrow I may just have these finished!

This week we are having a few knitting goals

1. finish the stars and stripes socks

2. knit 3 squares for the mystery blanket

3. finish a sleeve for raspy

so let's see how we do!

My friend Peter Baker is 80 today and he is having a party this evening to celebrate. He stipulated no presents but I couldn't possibly go empty handed so have bought this hat.

I am hoping Peter will model it for us. I also have a few other surprises up my sleeve! Let's hope we get a little sunshine.

Sock Club

So from this

  sockclubaug2008 002.jpg to this

sockclubaug2008003.jpg

The yarn is Lorna's Laces Shepherd Sock in fandango. This will be the first time I have used this yarn so I am looking forward to knitting these socks. I have still to finish Stars and Stripe socks before I cast on but I hope this will be before Thursday as David and I are off to see An Audience with Tony Benn. I would like to have these on the needles for that. I need to get back to one pair of socks as my commute / out and about project and concentrate on Raspy over the next couple of weeks.

I have managed to sort the pickle out I was in last night. Think I must have had a mental block - who would have thought the number of socks I have knitted. So hopefully I will soon have another completed pair to go in to the "sock box".

Last night I decided to get my winder out to wind my sock yarn for the Sock Club socks. These will be next on the needles as I would like to have them complete before the next set arrives which no doubt will be early October.

Of late I have been concentrating on getting my Mystery Blanket Squares up to date as in October we get the final squares and the "mystery" edging. I couldn't even contemplate signing up for the 2009 blanket without finishing 2008's!

Ok so I need to get my knitting mojo back. I have just ripped the heel of the second of the stars and stripes socks 3 times.

I couldn't resist

A visit to Reading has to include a visit to John Lewis. When I saw this book

CocoonCollection_cvr.jpg       The Cocoon Collection

I couldn't put it back on the shelf a second time. I saw it in Liberty's a couple of week-ends back. David and I were up in London to see Kylie at the The O2 Arena and went across to Oxford Street for a wander round the shops and a bite to eat before the concert. Rowan Studio Issue 12 will be available in September. Featuring Kid Silk Haze & Kid Silk Aura - will this be as tempting?

A "little birdie" has told me the postie has paid me a visit! I am sure the parcel will still be there when I return from the races.

Happy Knitting.

I read an article with this title in a recent edition of Red. If only this was a reality! Well this week it is. I am now on annual leave for 3 days and with an extended week-end, it is August Bank-Holiday. I said a prayer - please can we have some SUNSHINE. So far so good, I hope tomorrow is as good as today as I am off to the races.

I procrastinated for a few days - SHOULD I OR SHOULDN'T I....and in the end I succumbed.

A visit from the postman tomorrow I hope!.

Photo's and Magazine's

| | Comments (0) | TrackBacks (0)

I have at last managed to take some photo's of Raspy in course. Very little progress this week-end. Actually very little knitting this week-end which is disappointing.

raspyfrontandback170808.jpg Raspy - front and back

raspyfront170808.jpgRaspy - front

raspyback170808.jpgRaspy - back

I really wanted to finish the front this week-end but it wasn't to be.

I spent a little time catching up on a few websites over the week-end and there is one magazine I am sure to be tempted to buy in September. Debbie Bliss is launching a new magazine. Debbie's website says there will be new designs, some of the most popular from past collections, interviews with Debbie's favourite designers and news about new yarns and products. It looks like the magazine is in conjunction with VOGUEKnitting.

I am in Reading on Thursday. I must remember (how can I possibly forget) to pass through John Lewis and have a glance at Debbie's new books.

Winter Essentials

Talking of magazines I have over the last couple of months cancelled a lot of the annual subscription's I had to various knitting magazines. Apart from finding the time to read them all and room on the shelf to keep them there was not a huge number of patterns that I would ever knit in them. We are lucky enough to have a Borders in Newbury so if ever I feel like treating myself I can pop along there and purchase....

Thrown Together

I mentioned Kim Hargreaves's new books a while ago. Well what a book this one is.

thrown_together2.jpgSome lovely patterns and I have the yarn tucked away which I can use for quite a few of the patterns. Well summer has not been up to much so a perfect excuse to start knitting for the autumn / winter I think. There is another book due out from Kim in September - Amber.

First I must finish

raspy.jpg

 Raspy from Denim People

Then I just may start

still-3.jpg

Still in Rowan Calmer

I am off to Caffe Nero shortly with my mum and nephew Bradley. Knitting is in the bag - socks. May be this could be the time when I knit my Sock Club socks. Shall I or shan't I?

Whilst putting the 2 latest pairs of completed socks away I took the opportunity to count how many pairs were in the magic box - 10 pairs already. Now there are 12....

Soon to be 13

a close look at the colours which I have to confess I have quite taken to

Dilemma....

Some time ago I noticed that Get Knitted were introducing the Get Knitted Sock Club. You join up, pay your subscription and every 2 months you will receive 2 hanks of Lorna's Laces Shepherd sock yarn (enough for one pair of adult socks), in unique colorways dyed exclusively for the Get Knitted Sock Club by Lorna's Laces. The membership runs for 12 months with the first yarn being sent out in August. I have just been catching up with events over at Skein and guess what Dawn has received the first month's yarn - Fandango. (photo c/o Skein)

Hello

A little while I know. I am still knitting away on the socks. On the needles at the moment are a pair in regia silk color. Lovely and soft to knit with. Raspy is also making progress. I have a few days off work coming up so hopefully a little more knitting time than of late. Happy Knitting XXX

I loved the garment on the cover of the summer 2006 copy of Interweave Knits so I had to purchase 3 balls of the required bamboo yarn from Get Knitted to make said garment, a design by SHARON SHOJI

interweaveknits.jpg

LOTUS BLOSSOM TANK

and this is how far I got in the summer of 2006.

lotusblossomtank280708.jpg

I love the pattern detail on the botom half.

lotus blossom tank pattern 003.jpg

The pattern has a delicate repeating lace pattern with a square neckline and unusual shoulder detail. To avoid side seams, the body is worked in the round to the armhole. From there, the back and front are worked separately back and forth in stockinette stitch.

This is the first pattern I have knitted from Interweave Knits and I was quite enjoying it!

Me thinks I should finish it. I came so close!!! I would like to wear it at some point in the summer of 2008!

Banana's

Yes I have finished the knitting of another pair of socks - just the grafting of the second toe to do. I took these photo's on the train.

sock280708.jpg socktrain1280708.jpgWhilst at Web of Wool on Saturday Anna Tilman was giving out a knitting pattern for a banana cosy.

guardianbananacosy270708.jpg

It was part of an editorial being run in the Guardian. With the paper they were giving away "The rebel knitter's guide" - rather a fun leaflet with reading articles and patterns. You can go read about the article here.

I often take a banana to the office. I am sure one of these cosies sat on my desk would make for a good conversation!

Sock Nation

So here we have photographs of the current state of sock nation here in sunny Newbury.

kaffesocks_270708 011.jpg sockstrekkingpronatura270708 008.jpg

So we have 2 pairs complete and 2 pairs work in progress, one of which will all being well be complete tomorrow after a train journey in to London and back!

Yesterday I purchased another batch of sock yarn. David and myself went to Leamington Spa to meet up with Rowanette Liz and husband Dave. We shopped at Web of Wool. After a good hour or so browsing and selecting we walked down to Prezzo for lunch. I managed to grab a quick photo of our yarn purchases!

webofwool_260708 003.jpgHere is the finer detail - well of 2 of the bags anyway.....

webofwool1.270708jpg.jpgAnother 12 pairs of socks waiting to be knitted. Perhaps I should endeavour to knit these up in August - that would be some challenge I think although I am tempted not to take them up to the stash room - definitely the next batch of sock knitting.....over 2 months perhaps.

Happy knitting.

Busy Busy Busy

I am still knitting. I have 2 pairs of completed socks which I will share with you this evening. Blithe is getting lots of wear and I am making good progress with Raspy from Denim People.

I will endeavour to get some photo's up this evening after I get back from a Birthday celebration with some friends.

Better get to the office - rather busy! Something to do with working in the property sector and the credit crunch!

Hello...

Sorry but it has been a busy couple of weeks. Not too busy to stop the knitting though, just the blogging!

Summer of Socks has begun and in celebration I cast on a new pair of socks.

sos_290608 003.jpgThe yarn is TREKKING pro natura - lots of brown shades and I like the colours a lot.

Tomorrow I promise to take a photo of Blithe now that she has her buttons on. I have yet to wear Blithe but have plans to this week.

I seem to be back where I was in May - multi socks!

sock trio 290608 007.jpg

This was the state of "sock nation" yesterday morning whilst sunning myself outside Costa. So the plan is to finish the "sailing" sock (as you can see little progress was made on my sailing trip!) as this will make a pair and turn the heel on the SOS sock and the Kaffe Fassett socks by the week-end. Let's see how I do as I do have another WIP I would like off the needles by Wednesday and another parcel is due from Debbie Abrahams in the next day or two.

Can I watch the rest of the Andrew Murray match at Wimbledon?
