Brief Posting

Dear All

Just a brief message to let you all now I am still knitting away.

Glee has been travelling again and I am now on to the sleeves.

Birch is growing slowly and you may recall I wanted to finish this by 30th September so at midnight on 1st October I can cast on Elfin. I have just realised that is Tuesday, a mere 5 days away - a few rows a day and I may succeed after all the rows are getting shorter.

Sorry about the lack of pictures but I do not have access to a scanner at present however hopefully this will be rectified at the week-end and we shall have some colour again.

The final decision between Jane and Bonnie has not yet been made but it may soon be made for me as the yarn for Jane is currently stuck in the Oxford postal strike and the yarn for Bonnie is sat here in my basket.

Progressing well

Well Glee has been on her travels again this week-end and progressing along well. The back is finished and the front is completed up to the armholes.

It is back to work tomorrow so my knitting time will reduce but never the less I shall carry Glee with me so any opportunity to knit a few rows I shall take up.

Then there is birch - I am well on my way to the third ball having just weighed the second ball and there is 4g of yarn left. I consider that over half way and I am under 200 stitches left on the needle so how many rows to go....?

I have been pondering over my "TO DO PROJECTS" today and wondering which one to make my next "on the go" project. Should it be Bonnie in kid silk haze or Jane in yorkshire tweed. Then again it could be elfin the knit along.

Birch is growing - I can see it now. The rows are getting shorter. I am concentrating on birch knitting for the week-end and hope to make some rapid progress. I am really beginning to fall in love with the shawl now it is taking shape and can't wait to wear it.

The Yarnhouse

Today I have been to visit Sheelagh at The Yarnhouse and what a lovely shop it is. Sheelagh is gradually building her stock up in the shop but is able to order in any Rowan, Jaeger or Debbie Bliss yarn in a matter of days.

Coffee and Tea are served and there is a lovely room in the back where Sheelagh hopes to hold workshops.

I purchased my felted tweed ready for the October knit along of Elfin which will be fun. I am looking forward to this but will be good and not cast on until 1st October. This will be my first expereince of felted tweed.

Knitting in Sandbanks

Hello

I have been away for a few days to stay in Sandbanks where we had some fantastic weather.

Naturally I took my knitting (or some of it) along with me. The second sleeve of Candy is now finished after a session on the beach rocks unravelling a few twists in the balls of cherish and reed!

Knitting Candy

Untangling Candy!

Candy now joins the "sewing-up" pile where she has a few friends awaiting.

My on-the-go project of glee grew as I sat knitting away at the Hot Rocks cafe on Bournemouth seafront whilst waiting for my lunch.

Hot Rocking Glee

Then there was birch and I am well in to the second ball now having spent some time in the apartment knitting this. I need to concentrate on nothing else but my knitting when doing birch as mistakes can easily happen when you have Anna, kidsilk haze and a lace pattern altogether. I would like to finish birch by the end of September so I can begin Elfin early October.

A few of my knitting projects

I have the second sleeve of Candy from book 32 on the needles and half done so need to finish this. Kid classic knits up so quickly. Once the sleeve is finished Candy will be ready to sew up and do the neck. I love the colours - cherish and reed.

Candy

Glee is also making progress, another kid classic garment. This is a plain stocking stitch jumper which can be knitted with minimal concentration - this is my on-the-go project at the moment.

Then there is Birch where I have almost finished one ball of the kid silk haze - 2 to go. The colour is poison.

Birch

I need to get moving on Birch again as the next knit along is due to start in October - Elfin from Rowan's book 34. I have the kid silk haze - ready - the colour is lord and am getting the felted tweed in midnight colour on friday. I have ordered it from Sheelagh Kendra who has recently opened a yarn store - The Yarnhouse

Kaffe Fassett workshop

Anna and Kaffe

Last week-end I had the pleasure of going to Rowan's Mill at Holmfirth for the Kaffe Fassett workshop and here is a picture of Kaffe and me with my masterpiece which I produced over the week-end.

There were 40 of us on the workshop and we were sat at tables of 8. Our table was Jill Richards, Nancy Jobling, Sam Godden, Felicity Miller, Judith Ruyssevelt, Sheelagh Kendra, Sheena Peters and myself. We were regularly joined by Kaffe and Brandon who worked us hard to ensure we produced a fine piece of work by the end of the 2 days. We all did.

Dodi, Rowan Design Consultant at Liberty's also spent time with us giving us guidance on yarn tension and also colour.

I came away with many an idea and have since purchased a few wicker baskets to display my odd balls in. The plan is to make a long scarf in lots of different colours using odd balls of yarn and working from Kaffe's new book - Pattern Library - to put motifs and borders into the scarf. This will be an on-going project.
