Simple Living

You may have read over at alltangledup that Polly attended a Debbie Bliss workshop at the week-end.

Unfortunately I could not go as my very good friend Joanna was getting married and her twin sister Emma was bridesmaid. I have known Emma since she joined the RBS where I work 12 years ago and I have become good friends with Joanna too.

Jill Richards also attended the workshop and to make up for me not being able to go Jill kindly agreed to see if there was a copy of Debbies new book Simple Living to buy. Hey presto look what arrived in the post this morning

I think this is a great book and there are some lovely home furnishings to knit. I have selected a chosen few which I would love to do at some point.

The cushion is lovely - it is a cabled floor cushion measuring 65cm x 65cm and is knitted in Debbie Bliss cotton denim aran. I have yet to try that yarn so this may just be the project to try it out on.

The lined bag would be lovely for the ensuite to keep my hairbrushes in.

Sock number 2 is almost done - a few more rows and I will be on to the toe shaping. I wonder if it will look the same as sock number 1

Anna, I love that pinky/mauve coat - it is a gorgeous colour and really suits you! I've just started a pair of socks in Opal pale green - 'Magic" to knit in the car on the way tomorrow - can't remember if your Opal sock was one of the same series?

Bank of England Governor Mervyn King says he's ready to resume quantitative easing if the UK economic recovery falters due to the incoming austerity measures. Wholly inappropriate IMO - you can't address an insolvency problem with liquidity.

Brett Favre is an amazing quarterback. Who cares what he has done in his private life?

Bank of England head honcho Mervyn King gets his knighthood (OBE) but, one wonders, why? I mean, where was he during the credit crunch and what did he do then or has he done since? He got paid while he was there, didn't he? The world and its dog knows there's a grand mal crunch coming anytime soon because the people supposedly in charge (like him, for instance) resolutely refused point blank to address any of the real issues involved, so what's he getting his gong for? Not breaking ranks completely maybe, remembering he said of all the banking systems possible the one we have is the worst? Was this his price for keeping shtum about more contentious issues?

The bankers from the City of London are wailing and weeping, gnashing their teeth and tearing their hair in protest at the prospect of the new regulatory powers to be wielded by Bank of England Governor Mervyn King. Do we believe them or is this just theatre to make us think they're genuinely concerned?

Ridiculous of former chancellor Alistair Darling to accuse Bank of England manager Mervyn King of being 'stubborn' and the like - it just makes King appear like he's his own guy and not the political poodle the politicians had hoped he'd be. Darling just makes himself look like an idiot. Petty, too.

Not sure that the police capptured on film smashing the windows of a suspect's car with baseball bats should have been let off the way they did. Do we want Americanisms like that appearing in the UK - I mean, they could at least have used cricket bats LOL!
