HOLMFIRTH

This week-end was the first of three planned trip to Holmfirth this year. Yes you have guessed I have spent the week-end knitting at Rowans Mill. Why this week-end - it was the Parent and Child Weekend workshop with Sharon Brant and Emma Seddon.

My week-ends here always begin with breakfast at The Old Bridge Hotel having left home at 5am!

Who was I there with - well a few Rowanettes. Liz Jenks and Jackie Hunt. Liz had her two granddaughters - Steff and Chelsea. Steff's mum also came along - Sue.

Upon arrival at the mill we were met by Sharon and Emma who proivded an introduction to the weekend workshop.

The objective of this workshop was to inspire the younger generation to pick up a pair of knitting needles and some yarn and want to make something with it.

The children were shown how to knit using fun and funky yarns. This included how to knit , purl and cast on and off. For th echildren who already had basic skills there was an intermediate table where they could make a project that included knitting with beads, sequins and used different stitches. For the more advanced knitters, there was an intarsia class. For variety there was a table making friendship bracelets and smaller porjects using yarn.

For us adults there was the chance to hone our skills on the tips and techniques table as well as guidance on knitting projects to tackle using beads, sequins, intarsia, fairisle etc. There was also of course the children to help master their knitting skills.

On the Saturday night we had a fun meal at the local Indian.

All in all a great week-end. I got to knit with my friends and we got to see Davids dad which was long overdue. I will be doing this workshop again - Debi says I can take Xander!

I am already looking forward to my next visit - middle of June for the Funky Knits - Fun and Funky Socks workshop with Carol Meldum.

See you soon.

Happy Knitting
