Christmas is coming.....

20100925_27.jpg

Well this yarn was rather an extravagant purchase but I have to say so far I think it was worth it. Afterall Chirstmas comes but once a year and we all deserve a treat now and again!

Have fun with your knitting

Progressing nicely

sleeve_2_20100927_3.jpgNot had time to do much knitting on this this evening but I don't think it will take me long once I get going! I have done a few rounds of a "second sock" whilst my iPad updates - it is all second ........ at the moment!

Happy knitting.

20100926_1.jpg                                Lovely and bright colours don't you think?

It has been a cold day today. I feel coat and gloves may be coming out this week. I had better get going with those Christmas socks!

I am also making good progress with the second sleeve for Breeze but I will talk about that tomorrow.

Have a great week and Happy Knitting.

with a coffee. Pull out my sock to cast on. Cast on the stitches using a 3mm needle. Next row k2, p2 then I discover gosh horror I only have 3 needles in the case!

xmas20100923_1.jpg

That put a stop to the knitting pretty quickly. I better go locate 2 more I need this knitting for tomorrow - 2 meetings in London so got to pass time on the underground. Elephant & Castle is quite a long way on the Bakerloo line.

Will pop breeze in my bag as have an hour in to London so will knock up a few rows I am sure.

Happy Knitting

Sleeve Wednesday

| 1 Comment | No TrackBacks

I'm making good progress on Breeze's first sleeve. Take a look.

sleeve20100922_1.jpgThere's a fair amount of knitting below the armhole but not above as it is a set in sleeve. I am almost done on the increases but there's still quite a way to go with the knitting. Not sure it will be done by the week-end but hopefully nearer done than not so the second sleeve can commence!

Whizz

| 2 Comments | No TrackBacks

I did indeed turn the heel during the drive to Oxford on Saturday night.

If history repeats itself I will whizz along the foot. I mustn't neglect Breeze though as I want to fly through those sleeves!

Busy Sunday

I cast on sleeve number one for Breeze.

sleeve20100918_2.jpg

I am hoping this will be a relatively quick knit but let's not get too excited. I have a goal date in mind for this project! It is ok it October and not September - enough pressures in llife don't need anymore.

Have a great week.

Happy Knitting.

WOW

I knitted the right  front of Breeze in less than 2 weeks.

rightfront20100918_1.jpg

I need to pop this in my bag one day next week and shop for buttons. I don't think I have any big enough as the buttonholes are quite large.

Can I knit the 2 sleeves in 2 weeks - a sleeve a week? Is it do-able?

Have a great week-end.

Every row counts.

I  now have 2 buttonholes. Surprising how many rows you can clock up on the train between Newbury and London Paddington.

RIGHTFRONT20100916_2.JPG

When it came to the underground I am afraid my sock won! However not long enough to completely turn the heel. Car journey to Oxford on Saturday should do that trick!

Happy Knitting.

Aran Knitting by Alice Starmore has been re-issued. I got a little carried away last night (it was very late!) on my iPad and pre-ordered it from Amazon. Despatch date is 27th September so a little waiting time! I am however a little confused because The Book Depository says they can despatch it today but it is not published until 26th November so the question is will I have my book for Christmas? On the plus side I could then give it to someone to give to me for Christmas!

aranknitting.jpgThere is a design in the book I have fallen in love with Eala Bhan (click for a picture of the back).

  ealabhan.jpg

It is a "have to knit it" on the "to knit" list. It calls for Alice Starmore's own 2-ply Hebridean yarn, which you can buy from her website, Virtual Yarns. They are switched on and allow you to buy a yarn pack for the design in any of the colorways of the 2-ply Hebridean. Prices don't look too bad but they don't give you much of a feel for sizing - would I be a medium or a small???

I have read that the 2-ply Hebridean is very soft and lovely and the colour I have my eye on is Wild Orchid but there are some lovely colours!

wildorchid.jpgI had better get on with breeze. The right front is growing and hopefully some more photo's over the next few days.

Meanwhile my current sock nearly has a heel!

I promised a photo of some more of my squares so have quickly taken this one.

They always look so odd when I am knitting them - very colourful but it is only at the end that the squares all come together.

This year the theme is Beneath the Sea. It will be superb when all put together and the edging done.

Mystery Blanket

| 4 Comments | No TrackBacks

I really need to get motoring with my Mystery Blanket - I love the pattern and I love the yarns being used so GET KNITTING ANNA. The squares are so enjoyable to knit once I get going.

A few of my squares.

20100721_17.jpg 20100721_16.jpgI took these photo's earlier in the year when we had a sunny week-end. Very inspiring aren't they? I will take some pictures of my other squares when we ge a sunny spell!

My packages are sat waiting for me and I am not going to get disheartened about being behind but just get myself back on track, my plan to knit a square a night has not quite worked out so perhaps a square every 2 nights will be more achievable.

It's great at the beginning, most of the squares and colours are new, so it's a big surprise! A great way to knit a blanket.

September is the penultimate month!  Next month we get five squares plus the border instructions.  This knitalong has sped by just like the rest of the year.

We have the forms to sign up for next year. I really don't need another blanket 'but' can't miss out now. Will I have to keep going for ever? I loved last years geometric design but the preparation for each square took so long with all the beads. Next years is using turquoise and blues, and Debbie has said the yarns will be lightweight double-knitting and double-knitting weight and will include Rowan Glace Cotton, Rowan Revive, Rowan Lenpur Linen and Amy Butler Belle Organic DK. These all sound rather lovely! I have used Glace Cotton and Amy Butler but not Revive or Lenpur Linen.

OK I MUST get going in earnest on this years and try to finish last years. If not I will have 3 to do if I sign up for next years and that is a little rediculous. May be Christmas is a goal!

Breezey Sunday

| 1 Comment | No TrackBacks

At least it was first thing but then the sun came out and all change. Turned out quite warm and sunny.

This is the right side front of Breeze in progress.

rightfront120910.jpgThe front band is knit at the same time as the body, and buttonholes are worked in the garter stitch band as you go along. There are a total of 5 buttonholes, the 2nd one to come at waist level, half way between the last dec and the first inc of the side seam shaping, the 1st to come 24 rows below the 2nd, with the 3rd, 4th and 5th buttons spaced 24 rows apart above the 2nd button. I am almost at the 1st buttonhole stage. Let's hope I have done my row calculations correctly.

Have a great week.

Second Sock

| No Comments | No TrackBacks

I started a new sock, like you haven't seen me knit a sock recently!

20100911_28.jpg

I have a fair bit of travelling coming up over the next few weeks so need to make sure I am organised with my knitting for the journeys!

I made a little progress on Breeze today - hopefully more tomorrow and then I will post a photo.

Happy knitting and enjoy Sunday.

Knitting happily away

| 2 Comments | No TrackBacks

At last I got some quality time to knit a few rows on the right front of Breeze.

  right-front20100910_1.jpg

I was at the Southampton Boat Show today and decided to go by train. An hour and a half each way. I got my bits and bobs ready last night and made sure I had a sock to knit then I had a rethink and thought there is no reason I can't take Breeze so I did and got a fair bit done.

Hopefully lots more to come over the week-end. Would be good to get on to the sleeves.

Have a great week-end and happy knitting.

Sunday

Well I have finished the neck on the left front of Breeze

leftfront20100905_1.jpg

This will need to rest now whilst I get cracking on the right front and the 2 sleeves. I have worked out where my buttonholes need to be so let's hope I did my maths right!

I also have 2 finished socks sadly they don't make a pair

20100905_4.JPG

These are knitted using Opal Kaleidoskop shade 2994. They are so cheery with all the bright colours.

20100905_6.jpg

Again knitted in Opal Kaleidoskop shade 2993 - very autumnal.

I just need to knit their "mates" now!

Happy Knitting

Not so sunny Saturday

| 3 Comments | No TrackBacks

However it hasn't stopped me doing a few rows on Breeze. I am well on the way with the collar of the left front.

leftfront20100904_38.jpg

It is a garter stitch collar.

I have done the garter stitch botton of the right front and am ready to move on to 4mm needles and begin the pattern. First I need to calculate where my buttonholes need to be!

rightfront20100904_35.jpg

I knitted the bulk of the left front in 3 days but am hesitant about making the same speedy progress on the right front! Let's wait and see.

Enjoy your week-end.

Sunny Friday

| 1 Comment | No TrackBacks

A few hours in the garden with the radio playing and my knitting and I am well away. The left front of Breeze has made good progress.

leftfront20100903_2.jpg

I remembered to photo the back

back20100903_3.jpg

And whilst I was in the mood I took the opportunity to photo the current sock WIPS

20100903_7.jpg

20100903_6.JPG

These are knitted using some relatively new sock yarn from Opal and I just love the colours. The pinky ones are autumnal and the others bright and cheery!

I had a few minutes of extravaganza recently. Last year I wanted to knit some Christmas socks but left it too late to get some yarn. Not this year, I was shopping in August!

Breeze

| 6 Comments | No TrackBacks

Hi

I am back up and knitting with Breeze. I had another blip last night but sat at breakfast this morning and wrote the pattern out to see where I was going wrong. It was my Maths - 2 x 16 = 34 NOT!

leftfront20100902_1.jpg

                                                            Left front

Anyway I am now on a roll with my mojo back - for Breeze that is. All other WIP's are resting until this is finished - I have a set of drawers waiting for them! The only exception being Mystery Blanket squares and socks.

 Happy Knitting.

Veer

| 1 Comment | No TrackBacks

Hi

I have nearly finished the front of Veer, just one side of the neck to do and then it is on with the sleeves. I haven't knitted very much on this over the last week as with it being black I need good light!

20100901_1.jpg

I spent a couple of hours yesterday afternoon knitting the left front of Breeze only to have to rip shortly after as I missed a decrease - silly me. Anywhen upshot is not much progress to report on that WIP.

Happy Knitting
